Blackwing Volume 21 - Woodworking

Blackwing 21 is a tribute to the craft of woodworking. Each pencil is made with special finger jointed slats and features our first-ever square barrel. The pencil’s firm graphite is perfect for measuring and marking cut lines, and then measuring them again. 

Shakers were expert woodworkers who saw beauty in the usefulness of the things they made. Simple shapes, solid joinery, and unadorned materials were the foundation of Shaker design. Their commitment to craftsmanship, materials, and simplicity of form inspired generations of woodworkers, within their communities and beyond.

Today, woodworking is an exercise in precision, intuition, and mindfulness. The adage “measure twice, cut once” encourages woodworkers to slow down, be present, and make purposeful choices. A good rule for woodworking, and a good rule for life.
